To say or not to say !

"Freedom of speech/expression".... an amazing freedom that gives you the right to state the right and the truth (according to me). It’s an amazing feel that our country has it...or....does it?

Do we really have the freedom to exercise this freedom....well let me try and state my views on it.
Even in a place as small as an educational institution, technically we have the right to question. We are allowed to question the people who lack a sense of responsibility. We are allowed to demand an explanation of things we do not understand, but in reality this is really not the case most of the time. We are not really comfortable questioning unless of course it’s about a subject (as far as students are concerned we don’t even exercise this right :)) .The fear of a consequence always looms large .What kind of consequence? Nothing earth shattering but definitely things that could end up being a black mark in our life (career), something that may affect us at some other level. It is quite funny sometimes that there are so many (right)things we want to say that often no own but our gang of really close friends get to hear :-).For me initially it was the thought of having to stay in this place for the next 3 odd years stopping me and now its sheer indifference( because am at the fag end of the course). At times I really admire the people who voice out their opinions and at other times I feel they are purely stupid(no offense meant)......

I think this kind of a situation exists only because, as one of our Prof’s famously states “man is a social animal”. We live along side people. All of us have a brain which almost works uniquely, so almost everybody’s perception varies. So the way I take and you take it will most probably be different. So though they expect objectivity in the projects we do..,we truly live in a world that’s subjective in most senses…

I’m sure this kind of a situation exists in a lot of other places but since I have no experience I don’t feel authorized to provide my opinion on a topic as big as "freedom of speech”. But I would like to hear your comments .......do post.....

PS: well I wrote this blog with quite a bit of caution, making sure I keep things as discreet as possible......well...that’s freedom of expression for you... :)...
